Each
year we have a bloom of cacti in our greenhouse. The bloom is spread over
several months but has a peak around this time. This year the "big
day" was the 23rd. June 2006. The images shown below gives you an idea of how
beautiful these otherwise uninteresting plants (according to my wife) can be.
Sadly, the big flowers rarely last more than a day or at most two. Accompanying
the display there is always a magically strong, heady scent that hangs in the
air and reminds me of sultry, still tropical holiday evenings. I apologise for
the orchid at the end, I could not resist including it!
If you do not use the Next/Last buttons beneath the picture, the show will cycle
at 15s intervals.
All the images were taken with an Olympus 4.7MPx camera, converted and reformatted using the image editor in XplorPlus XP.
